On the first night of the Americana Music Festival, the Showcase performance schedule may have been abbreviated by the Americana Music Awards show taking place earlier in the evening at The Ryman, but there was still plenty on offer in the 6 official Americanafest venues across Nashville. We spent our evening in the Mercy Lounge, where breakout artist Corb Lund performed a solo set, followed by an all-star tribute titled "This Wheel's on Fire: A Tribute to Levon Helm."
For those who haven't seen Lund, this young sensation proved why he is being lauded by many as the future of the Americana music scene. Lund's set was a solo set, with his touring band The Hurtin' Albertans nowhere to be seen. But Lund didn't need the support. In a venue as intimate as The Mercy Lounge, just Corb and his guitar were enough to keep the overflow crowd entertained. Lund switched effortlessly between a setlist that pulled heavily from his recently released album "Cabin Fever" and some humorous stories.
