Entertainment Weekly Premieres New Music Video for Was A Time

The nervy folk-pop of NYC singer-songwriter Anthony D’Amato’s new single “Was a Time” brings to mind Simon and Garfunkel’s more amped-up moments, and the theme of it’s new video is a ruined wedding, much like the end of The Graduate, only much, much crazier. “This song was influenced equally by Pete Seeger and Suicide,” D’Amato writes in an email, “which I don’t think is a sentence that gets said very often.”

In an email, the Kuperman Brothers (who directed the clip) say, “We wanted to undercut some of the heavier sentiments in the song and to play up Anthony’s sense of humor. The three of us sat down and brainstormed the wackiest shots we could get away with while shooting in a church. At the same time, we wanted to mirror the frenetic, driving energy of the track itself (and also to give a guy an atomic wedgie on camera).”

“Was a Time” appears on D’Amato’s debut full-length The Shipwreck From The Shore (out now on New West Records), which features contributions from members of Bon Iver and Megafaun. He kicks off a U.S. tour Tuesday night at Boston’s Cafe 939.
