Today's free song comes from across the Pond. The English folk-rockers, Young Rebel Set, recently signed with New West Records and are gearing up to release their sophomore album, Crocodile, later this month. You can stream and download the record's single, "The Lash Of The Whip," above.

"Mark [Chipchase] and I spent a week or so holed up writing in a house in Northern France a couple of years back, and this is one of a number of songs that came from that time," lead guitarist Andy Parmley reminisces. "I remember talking to my uncle about some problems he’d been going through and how they were mostly self-inflicted. He said it was like ‘digging your own grave’ and ‘lashing a whip to your own back.’ I thought those phrases produced such dark imagery that was quite personal but easily relatable at the same time. The music was written to be accessible; a memorable, almost-pop melody that builds throughout the three or four chords in the song at a relatively fast tempo to create this frantic, pounding, sometimes-jumpy feel which compliments the lyrics."

Crocodile is slated for a September 23 release via New West Records and can be pre-ordered through iTunes. Next month, the quintet embarks on their first ever US tour. Check out a full list of dates below.
