Best Instrumentation: Ben Miller Band It took more than a shared beard enthusiasm for a built-for-busking trio like the Ben Miller Band to go over as a tour opener for ZZ Top, though it probably didn’t hurt.
New West Records has announced the signing of New Orleans-based country-soul band, The Deslondes. The five-piece is currently on the road with Old Crow Medicine Show. Following the tour, they will put the finishing touches on their debut full-length album, which will be released in early 2015. The LP was recorded with Andrija Tokic (Alabama Shakes, Benjamin Booker, Hurray for the Riff Raff) at his Bomb Shelter studio in Nashville.
Just watching the Ben Miller Band set up for a show tells you you're in for something unique. The three bearded men have a guitar, drums, mandolin, and a couple of horns, which seems normal enough, but then you see the electric banjo, electric washboard, a microphone made out of an old-school telephone handset, and, best of all, a single-stringed washtub bass.
Today's free song comes from across the Pond. The English folk-rockers, Young Rebel Set, recently signed with New West Records and are gearing up to release their sophomore album, Crocodile, later this month. You can stream and download the record's single, "The Lash Of The Whip," above.
